This is What Coronavirus Has Done To The World

Coronavirus, which is now the main focus of the entire world, has undeniably did some damage to the world. Since it’s outbreak in the province of Hubei in China last December, this ”deadly” virus has spread to the rest of the world in the span of weeks. Moreover, due to the concerning rates of contagion, most government officials are taking radical safety measures for their citizens.

Besides deaths, panic and quarantines, covid19 has tragically (and not-so-tragically) has done serious damage. Here is what coronavirus has done to the world.

Altered Traveling Plans

Obviously, when a highly contagious, super fatal disease appears, the most important element becomes safety. By the end of 2019, China had already suffered from fluctuating tourist rates. In fact, major companies canceled their flights towards Hubei, and airports were closed.

However, following the tragic and rapid spread of the virus, other countries than China took a hit. Therefore, people had to cancel trips, postpone business trips and limit crowds. In Italy, after the country entered into self-quarantine, all attractions, museums and touristy places were closed, which left major Italian cities zombie-like.

Affected the World’s Economy

Besides the damage economically done through tourism, the world’s economy is being affected. Many countries have implemented a coping strategy, which consists of allowing remote working. In order to limit the massive use of public transportation, as well as frequent physical contact within offices, people are now working from home.

This is not all. The UK and US stock markets have are reported to suffer their worst hit since 2008. Oil prices are plunging, and the world is fearing a globally serious market shut down.

People Took the Major Hit

Additionally, besides the economy suffering, people are the ones taking the major hit. Psychologically speaking, the panic and seriousness of the situation has many people misinformed. Then, being forced to work at home, made people believe that the end is near. Supermarkets were flooded and emptied, bars are shutting down, and festivals have been canceled. Free movement of people is now becoming limited everywhere, and major precautions are recommended to be made, especially in highly infected zones.

Closing of Important Facilities

On Monday, Spanish authorities announced that they will be shutting down schools, universities (public and private) as well as elderly homes. this comes as an attempt to radically lower contagion rates. Following the footsteps of the Italian government, who closed up the country, Spain is also considering a possible complete shut down of the metro and trains, if the situation aggravates.

In addition, all football events scheduled for the upcoming two weeks, will officially be played behind closed doors. This includes big confrontations, crucial matches, as well as the return leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Few Positive Points

Well, there is nothing positive about having to close yourself in, or hear someone’s death or fluctuating economy and altered traveling plans. However, coronavirus might have done a small fraction of good to the world. According to NASA, since the outbreak of the virus, their ”greenhouse gas emissions in China, the world’s largest current contributor to climate change, are down 25 per cent.” Climate change is also another serious issue facing the world nowadays, and we hope that this current situation grows some awareness regarding what we could go through next.

This is The First Country to Make All Public Transport Free

Tramway

Luxemburg has now become the first country to make all public transport free. Although it’s one of the smallest countries in Europe, it has a high concentration of traffic. In fact, it is due to this traffic congestion that the government decided to make all transport free of charge as of March 1st. This concerns trains, buses and trams, that allow to commute within Luxemburg, but also within neighboring countries.

Luxemburg City Has One of The Highest Traffic Rates in Europe

Furthermore, this beautiful country is one of the richest in the area. According to the EU, it has the highest GDP per capita. In addition, its geographical location was a significant reason behind this decision, as Belgium, Germany and France can be reached in so little time.

In fact, and due to the booming job market and economy of Luxemburg, many people have settled in this country. However, this caused a big raise in housing costs. According to CNN, in Luxemburg City, over 180,000 of its workforce commute from neighboring countries every day.

Free Transport For Everyone

For that reason and more, the government decided to make all means of transport around the country free. As an attempt to lower traffic jams and congestion, as well as to allow the people to benefit from the ”good economy” as declared by the country’s ministry.

It has been reported that the free transport plan will run through the whole country, and is supposed to come at a cost of €508 million per year. Ticket sales generate around $46 million per year, but they will be abolished with the new plan.

The New Government is Making Significant Changes

Moreover, Luxemburg is indeed the first country to make all public transport free. The new socialist government that will be formed under the re-elected PM Xavier Bettel has vowed to take environmental causes seriously. Actually, this country has  662 cars per 1,000 people, which one of the highest in the region.

Therefore, the new government is aiming to implement new changes that would significantly enhance habitants’ day-to-day lives, while raising awareness about climate change and the environmental crisis currently affecting the world.

Follow These Safety Measures To Keep Coronavirus Away

Now more than ever, the world should take safety measures against Coronavirus very seriously, as the outbreak has officially reached the highest level alert. Since the start of 2020, what seemed like a common cold had become a mass-killing disease. So far, over 3000 people have died from this virus, and almost 91.000 cases have been confirmed.

The World Health Organization, as well as several governments have made in place safety measures to control the fast spread of coronavirus. We have investigated several medical sources to bring you up-to-date with all the precautions you should take in order to prevent catching the coronavirus.

From a Virus To An Epidemic In 3 Months

Coronavirus first started in the city of Wuhan in China. In few weeks, several parts of the country were already touched by the virus. Despite the desperate attempts to create quarantines and airport based tests, the virus managed to spread very quickly.

Today, and just 3 months later, 73 countries have officially confirmed coronavirus cases within their territories. In fact, Italy is now the highest European country with recorded infections, and also deaths. Governments have advised their citizens to be extra careful, and report even the slightest symptoms to health experts. The current virus map is quite alarming, as it shows that most countries have recorded at least one coronavirus infection.

How To Tell the Difference Between Common Cold and Coronavirus Symptoms?

Furthermore, and since the complexity of the disease is actually noticing it. Coronavirus takes two weeks to show symptoms after the infection occurs. Consequently, the struggle is realizing wether your are having a simple seasonal cold, or what could be a deadly virus.

Although the symptoms are very similar, coronavirus affects your respiratory system. Therefore, if you have a dry cough, fever, abdominal pain and problems breathing, it would be wise to get tested. However, the WHO insists that coronavirus is just like any virus, affects mostly elderly, people with existing health problems, and those with a poor immunity system.

As oppose to a normal cold, coronavirus can not be treated with regular medicine. Yet, it still get transmitted through human contact, and touching surfaces that have been infected.

What Can You Do To Keep Coronavirus Away?

According to health organizations, doctors and experts, there exists a few safety measures to keep the coronavirus away. Moreover, they insists that taking extra hygiene precautions could help you prevent catching the virus.

Firs of all, they advise to keep your distance from people who might seem relatively sick. If you are taking public transportation daily, you should consider keeping at least a 1 meter distance between you and other people. In general, avoid close contact with people who are not very close to you. Second, make sure to cover your mouth after sneezing or coughing, and avoid touching any surfaces after that, as the germs stick quickly and the virus could stay active for days. Third, wash your hands on the regular, and especially do not touch your face, nose, and mouth as that’s the entrance of the virus to the body. Also, try to wear gloves when circulating in big cities.

In addition, experts insist that if you haven’t been in any of the highly infected zones, or didn’t experience any of the symptoms in the following 14 days after your return, you shouldn’t be worried. However, since coronavirus is highly catchy, applying the recommended safety measures, watching for yourself and reporting any symptoms can help reduce your chances of developing it.

Japanese People Celebrate Love In The Most Curious Way

Japanese People Celebrate Love In The Most Curious Way

Love is such a unique feeling, and Japanese people celebrate it in their own way. Although in most places, Valentine’s Day is recognized as the ”official” love day, different cultures rely on different celebration methods. In Japan, they celebrate this special day in their traditional, yet curious way. Here is what we know about how Japanese people celebrate Valentine’s day!

Women MakeThe First Move

Flowers with the world I love you

Yes, you read that right. In Japan, women are the one to make the first move on the men they love. In fact, the tradition says that the roles are reversed, and women gift chocolate to the men in their lives.

On February 14th in Japan, and instead of gifting jewelry, flowers or expensive treats, women offer chocolate and candy as presents. The interesting part though, and unlike other parts of the world, it almost seems that Japanese people celebrate Valentine’s Day in a one-sided manner.

Men Take One Month To Respond

Actually, men take one month to return the gift to their women. On March 14th, men bear gifts to their loved ones. The White Day is generally known as the day men return their heart-felt sentiments to the girls they are interested in. Although the gifts can be other than chocolate, there is an unspoken pressure of gifting the same present to the women. Literally, it takes men one whole month to pick the right gift, and choose who they gift it to.

Different Types of Chocolate Are a Must

There is something undeniably sweet about expressing your love on this special day. In Japan, it’s a big celebration, even for single people. In fact, as love has different ways of manifesting itself, the Japanese can gift all the men they consider important in their lives. However, not all men get the same type of chocolate.

Moreover, girls pick a specific honmei-chocolates for the men they are romantically interested in. Other types of candy and sweets can be offered to coworkers, family members and friends. However, one should be quite careful of which type of chocolate they choose, since on March 14th, they will know the response of those men.
