While the likelihood<\/strong> of someone transforming into a werewolf Jacob Black style<\/strong> is slim to none, there are many stories<\/strong> about people going “loony” during the full moon.<\/strong> There are reports <\/strong>of increased <\/strong>crime<\/strong><\/a> and emergency room visits <\/strong>during this lunar phase<\/strong>, yet is this just all a coincidental <\/strong>nightmare<\/strong><\/a>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Moon’s Effect On The Tides… And The Water In Our Body<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is well-known knowledge<\/strong> that the moon<\/strong> has an effect on the tides.<\/strong> Just as Earth has a gravitational pull,<\/strong> so does the moon. <\/strong>While it’s not strong enough to lift us off the planet <\/strong>entirely (thank goodness for that) it does have the effect of pulling the water<\/strong>, making it “bulge.” As a result, we get high tide<\/strong> on the side of Earth that’s nearest the moon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, as humans<\/strong> we also have a large amount of water in our bodies<\/strong>. In fact, men’s bodies<\/strong> are composed<\/a> of approximately 60% water (55% for women). <\/strong>This leads many to believe that the moon’s gravitational pull of water<\/strong> then also means it’s pulling humans,<\/strong> and likely having an effect on our behavior. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough With Beliefs, What About The Facts?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many people have their hunches,<\/strong> but science<\/strong> is the only way to truly prove <\/strong>if this lunar behavioral phenomena<\/strong> is real. A group of researchers <\/strong>in Canada<\/strong> decided to research<\/strong><\/a> if the moon had any behavioral effect<\/strong> on patients. The researchers <\/strong>composed their investigation<\/strong> by recording all of the patients <\/strong>who complained of chest pain<\/strong> with no medical reason behind it. <\/strong> A majority of the patients<\/strong> also suffered from some psychological issues, <\/strong>such as mood disorders or anxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results<\/strong> found that there was zero correlation <\/strong>between the chest issues, <\/strong>which they determined to be a psychological issue,<\/strong> and lunar phases. <\/strong>According to Dr. Genevi\u00e8ve Belleville who led<\/a> the study, “One thing is certain:<\/strong> we observed no full-moon or new-moon effect<\/strong> on psychological problems.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full Moon Or Something else…<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Given the solid conclusion <\/strong>from the research<\/strong> study<\/strong>, the full moon<\/strong> is officially off the hook as scapegoat for one’s crazy behavior. <\/strong>Turns out, if one is acting a little loony, <\/strong>they might just be that way… always<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
