{"id":3342,"date":"2019-05-09T11:07:37","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T09:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/?p=3342"},"modified":"2019-05-09T11:15:19","modified_gmt":"2019-05-09T09:15:19","slug":"pizza-or-a-bowl-of-cereal-for-breakfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/en\/pizza-or-a-bowl-of-cereal-for-breakfast\/","title":{"rendered":"Pizza turns out to be a better breakfast than cereals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" src=\"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/vita-marija-murenaite-691144-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Pizza\" class=\"wp-image-3344\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Having <strong>leftovers from last night&#8217;s pizza<\/strong> for breakfast is very much a clich\u00e9 that happens at every home no matter what country you live in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has always been thought, however, that is is not exactly the healthiest habit, and has always been accompanied by statements like &#8220;<strong>that&#8217;s so unhealthy<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>you&#8217;ll get fat if you do that<\/strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>you should have cereals for breakfast, not pizza<\/strong>&#8220;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comparing both<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According the the nutritionist <a href=\"https:\/\/chelseyamernutrition.com\/\">Chelsea Amer<\/a>, <strong>having pizza for breakfast is probably healthier for you than cereals.  <\/strong>Apparently, pizza has <strong>less sugar and more protein<\/strong> than a bowl of cereal (doesn&#8217;t matter what type). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both contain nearly the same amount of calories, but pizza packs a much larger protein punch, <strong>keeping you full throughout the whole morning. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2270\" height=\"2071\" src=\"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/peter-lewicki-614626-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Cereals\" class=\"wp-image-3365\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Plus, a slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than cold cereals, so <strong>you will not experience a quick sugar crash<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p><cite>Chealsea Amer<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A little experiment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, it has to be taken into consideration what type of cereal and what type of pizza is being consumed. However, a big problem with cereal is that people who eat cereal usually <strong>eat more than one serving<\/strong>, so the intake of unhealthy substances increases by a lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/cro\/news\/2014\/12\/cereal-portion-control-matters\/index.htm\">Consumer Reports<\/a> carried out a small study with 124 people, in which <strong>92% consumed more than one serving<\/strong>. They were <strong>shocked<\/strong> by how much constitutes one serving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So is it good to have pizza for breakfast?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"5097\" height=\"3398\" src=\"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/brenna-huff-1169540-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Greasy pizza\" class=\"wp-image-3368\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, pizza might not be the worst option compared to sugary cereals. However, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/melissarifkinnutrition.com\/about\/\">Melissa Rifkin<\/a>, a bariatric dietitian at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montefiore.org\/\">Montefiore Medical Center in New York<\/a>, it is still <strong>not a smart choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;While pizza can be a healthier choice per se, you may be giving most people <strong>an open window here of really amping up sodium<\/strong>, carbohydrates and fat early in the morning and <strong>setting oneself up for failure throughout the day<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p><cite>Melissa Rifkin<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, pizza <strong>doesn&#8217;t really lack sugar.<\/strong> <strong>Frozen pizza can&#8217;t be spared either<\/strong>. Melissa Rifkin reviewed different types of pizza and found that all of them are full of<strong> questionable ingredients,<\/strong> like <strong>high fructose or corn syrup<\/strong>, in addition to all the fat and calories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A better option<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4538\" height=\"3119\" src=\"https:\/\/curiosifymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/jannis-brandt-107231-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Breakfast\" class=\"wp-image-3371\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, we should <strong>replace &#8220;morning pizza&#8221; with better options<\/strong>, like <strong>homemade healthier pizza<\/strong> with <strong>less cheese, whole wheat crust and vegetables. <\/strong>Or just <strong>stay off pizza completely,<\/strong> and leave it for those special &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/straighthealth.com\/what-is-a-cheat-day\/\">cheating days<\/a>&#8220;.
